"I looked over what you sent me and I have so many ideas on what I can do for this project! I did a little looking around for other ideas too and I found a idea that I really like. I have some fabric dye that I thought I could use like watercolor on fabric, I could then go over it with my sewing machine or embroidery to add details. My inspiration was this picture I found on Pinterest."

MARCH 24th assignment > DUE MARCH 31st
This will be our first assignment following your Spring Recess.
Each of you have been doing quite a bit of research from our Contemporary Painters List on a weekly basis.
From it, you have gleaned quite a bit of information of how artists put their knowledge and passion to use!
In addition, you have learned quite a bit of painting applications in our first seven weeks of the semester!
From the email sent to you on MAR 16th and posted on our class blog >
Painting can take on so many forms!!!
So, should you not have supplies with you at your ready — this gives each of us an opportunity to really do some CREATIVE THINKING & MAKING!!!
Some of you may have your supplies with you, but some of you may not.
I do not want to ask you to go out and purchase a new palette of paints — so let’s put on our thinking caps and really do some mining of the materials you do have!!
Some of you may have access to your paints, or a few of them?
Some of you may have access to drawing supplies?
Some of you may have access to ink?
Some of you may have access to images for collage?
Some of you may have access to fabric, old clothes, etc?
Yarn, thread, food wrapping and packaging—>
Color is all around you!!!
I will need to know this so I can work independently with each of you.
Following your own thinking on this idea and what direction you might like to explore, please respond to INTO ABSTRACTION to let me know your thoughts by MONDAY MAR 23rd at 11:00 am.
1. This includes your plans for the two paintings you are creating
2. What representational object will be found within the painted surface?
3. In addition to Conor Harrington, who have you been inspired by?
4. What are the materials you will be using?
5. Size of work
Remember, put your painting knowledge already gained to work for you — you know a great deal already!!
Here’s some inspiration for you to think of painting with thread…

Prior the discussions during our remote critique, you need to have 5 talking points completed and at the ready to share with your colleagues. They include these:
- How did you translate the original assignment INTO ABSTRACTION and who, beyond Conor Harrington, from your research were you inspired by? You need to have one image with complete details to share with colleagues
- Three problems you ran into (other than time, of course!)
- How did you solve those problems?
- Aesthetically, how do the two works you created translate in their completed forms? Are they pleasing to you aesthetically, to they meet your expectations? Surpass them?
- What did you learn from this challenge and what would you improve on next time?
If you’re not a member of this group - you may want to check them out, they’re really quite inventive in terms of painting with thread and fabric!!
